Autumn in Washington

Autumn in Washington

She’s stolen my warmth
Autumn with her shadows
She’s stolen the leaves
From my pondering places
She colors my lawn with darker hues
Moody shifts draw me inward
Decaying leaves lay a quilt
Steaming pavement hissing upward
Naked trees stand and shiver
Sipping fragrant pine cone lattes

Mother's Anguish

Mother’s Anguish

Apple tree blossoms shaped like your tears

Your daddy’s letter stained and worn

I’ll be home soon he promised to you

The hospital took him and didn’t give him that

Your breaking heart you leave in the tree

You wail, brother, dear brother, why did you go

Off to the Navy where they took him from you

You shake your fist at the sky

Who’s going to walk you down the aisle

Bitter tears soak your pillow at night

Boarding school where you’ll live for a while

No one there’s allowed to cry

Down inside you’re twisted and torn

Numbness sets in but outside you’re smiling

No apple trees to climb in this place

Handsome man with a Navy suit smiles

Your daddy, your brother, you see in his face

Your heart is caught in a warm embrace

It’s not wise, be careful your mother warns

Your knight has arrived you think to yourself

Blushing young bride unaware of your pain

Children will fill your void and spaces

Housewifely duties you grudgingly fulfill

Three children born, then two die,

Your pain you drown with your liquid friend

Lingering pain poisons all those around

Seeping in the pores of your children's souls

You can't go back so you steam ahead

Stepping over all the bodies you leave

Father forgive me

Summer Garden Feast

My eyes were feasting in the garden today
Gardenias, roses, mini and large
hues of pink and red and blue
shady ferns and plants with long tongues
regal flowers sitting alone on a stalk
dainty flowers basking in the shade of another
busy little yellow bomber bees
hoarding pollen for themselves
leaving a little for the gentle flutter-bys
a family of pigeons giving a glance
before taking flight off the birdbath
ahhh I take in the smells and delight in the sights
before leaving to join the rush of the day

Variations on Summer Grass by F.A.R.-Out

Summer grass aches and whispers
As feet pound on its rooftop
It wants something
A peaceful rest from frenzied friends
It calls out and sings
A lullaby that lulls the falling leaves
It pours out wishes to the overhead stars
At beackons the majestic moon to come forth
The rain hears
Trickling drops from the eveing sky
The rain answers
Relief arrives without retraction
The rain is slow coming
Impatient, the foe to my long awaited fantasy
The rain wets the face of the grass
Slowly sliding into the slipping serenity of silence...

The Symphony of Summer

Shoes tossed off in effortless lethargy
The warm summer sun shines above
A calming lullaby for my dreary days
Throwing my clothes in a haphazard heap
The refreshing water calling me forth
A symphony of music notes beckon
But few we hear
Yet our hearts sing with the waves

Hummm

sitting at my quiet desk
dreaming lost in thought
a thought races past my head
out the window where kids play
I look out my window and see a kid hurt
a devilish smile crosses my lips
was it me that threw that rock?
my silence will break with a thud and a sock!

Poetry on the Fly

Bubbles, bubbles everywhere
Brick tied to my feet
I had no right to be at their lair
With a fireplace full of soot
That's when I discovered a squirl
He threw a nut at my head and clunked me hard
And made me need to hurl
I've decided that this writer is a retard
